Words of advice about the recent mass shootings in America

Sushree Siddheshvari Devi, senior pracharak and disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj

In the wake of recent tragic mass shooting at a school in Connecticut, America, Sushree Siddheshvari Devi, senior pracharak and disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, offered the following words of advice in her weekly words of wisdom mailing list (Click here for archive):

The tragedy that unfolded a few days ago in the US was especially devastating due to the sad fact that little children were killed. These kids were not in a war zone but in the safety net of their own classroom when they were mercilessly gunned down.

What is even more shocking than the tragedy itself is some people's reaction to it. You would think they would speak out vehemently against guns. But no! They are asking for more guns. Their so-called 'solution' is to equip teachers with guns.

Not long ago there was a shooting in a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. Many are now suggesting that every member of the clergy and every devotee visiting a temple or church should carry a gun for self-protection.

The fact is that guns kill. All the rules and regulations cannot prevent a madman from targeting innocent people. The fact that there are more guns than people in America is very alarming. I shudder to think what will become of a nation where in certain parts selling a gun is easier than selling lemonade.

It has become commonplace for people to shoot their family members before taking their own lives with their own weapons. We hear one story; we are shocked; we forget about it for a while until we hear another and are shocked all over again. Soon we will not be shocked any more. This will fast become a routine.

Guns are not the solution. They are the problem.

This is the problem we forget tragedies so easily and think they will never happen to us....Everybody in the world thinks like this....If everybody thinks that this could happen to me or my loved ones lot of bad things will not happen (eg. If everybody in world thinks like this people would give up guns)
