What is initiation (dikcha) and disciplic succession? Part 3 of 3

Jagadguru Ramajunacharya with disciples. The Guru, with his special power, then reveals to him the Divine form of Radha Krishna; and this is called the final initiation (premdan) which elevates the disciple to the Divine status of his Guru. This is part 3 of a 3 part series on Initiation and Disciplic succession explained by a disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj in 1975 in Vrindavan, India. Click here for part 1, here for part 2.

The practical form of surrender is servitude, therefore, a Saint accepts the physical and monitory service of a devotee for his mission. He may also ask for such a service from a devotee, because, on the basis of his surrender, the Saint has to Grace him.

Through service and dedication, a devotee makes progress on the path of God realization. If he continues his devotion with an unbroken faith in his Guru, a time comes when his heart becomes perfectly pure. Though there are many distractions on the path of devotion, like bad sanskars, bad associations, etc., the one who survives these, attains the stage of perfect purity. The Guru, with his special power, then reveals to him the Divine form of Radha Krishna; and thus is called the final initiation (premdan) which elevates the disciple to the Divine status of his Guru. Now he becomes a true disciple and comes into the line of succession in his Guru's sect.

The Disciplic-succession (discipleship and its succession)

From the above examination, we understand that only that disciple who succeeds in receiving the Divine vision and the Divine love of Radha Krishna (it means who becomes a real Saint), comes into the disciplic-succession of his Guru, not others.

It is a general fact that among hundreds of thousands of disciples of a real Saint, only a few reach the stage of God-realization. The others remain as ordinary devotees.

There is one more important point that an ordinary person can never know who has attained Divine vision because the final initiation, which is called premdan, is an initiation which no-one knows except the one who actually receives it.

When the proper time of premdan comes, the Guru, wherever he is, imparts the Divine Love power in the heart of his disciple, and this secret is shared only by the bestower (the Guru) and the recipient (the disciple). Take the instance of Mira. She received the Vision of Krishna while she was in Vrindaban as it is known from her song "aju main dekheon Giridhari...." Which Saint gave her premdan, is unknown to the people.

(Video of Meera singing Brindavan kunj bhavana naachata Giridhari).  Meera received the Vision of Krishna while she was in Vrindaban as it is known from her song aju main dekheon Giridhari.... Which Saint gave her premdan, is unknown to the people

Just as the identity of a Saint remains unknown to the common people, so does the line of succession (disciplic-succession), and thus, who is the present successor in any sect also remains unknown. There are always real Saints in the world and every real Saint certainly belongs to one of these 'successions', but how can the people of the world know that who is a real successive Master of a particular sect, because there are hundreds and thousands of preachers claiming to be the true successive Masters of their sects.

Actually, no one can know, and moreover the truth is that there is no special value of  such a knowledge, because sects are not going to help you in any way. You need the association of a real Saint who can impart Divine-Love. Anyhow, to satisfy one's curiosity, one should know that "disciplic succession" of all the sects was apparently stopped after the ascension of all the original Jagadgurus, and "family succession"  (described here) started. This has been already pointed out by Ved Vyas while describing the effect of Kali-yug. He said:

The disciplic successions apparently come to a close in the age of Kali - Ved Vyas

The reason has been already discussed that after the ascension of Jagadgurus and Divine personalities of that time, ordinary disciples and the devotees having social preferences sat on the thrones of the temples and mathas and started a procedure of telling 'mantra' in a formal way, calling it 'initiation'. Thus, from that time instead of disciplic succession, in each and every sect, family succession started, which is being continued up to today.

(Video of chanting with Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj) A real Saint simply does his duty of distributing Divine Love among the deserving souls

All the sects originate from Godhead. Just like a big firm that produces the same article with different brands, Godhead Krishna also sends various Saints to this earth who represent various sects. Everyone knows that the 'brand' of a medicine is not going to cure a patient, it is the quality of the medicine which cures. In the same way, the 'Divine' quality of a Saint cures the material illness of a devotee and grants him Divine-Love not the 'title' of any sect which he holds. That is why a real Saint remains indifferent to such useless ideologies because the talk of sects are the product of the material world. There are no such sects in Divine Vrindavan.

Once a person asked a Saint: "What is your sect and caste?" He replied: "Rasik ananya hamari jati." It means that there is no fraction of sect or caste amoung the Rasik Saints of Vrindavan. They are all one. Their caste is 'Love', their culture is 'Love'. and their Devotion is 'Love'. Apart from 'Love' they know nothing else, because they are in perfect harmony with the Absolute Love, Radha Krishna.

Thus, we understand that a true seeker of Divine Love should be away from all thoughts of sects and successions. They are simply social bondages which hold a devotee from surrendering to a Rasik Saint. A real Saint never discusses such superficial things, he simply does his duty of distributing Divine Love among the deserving souls. Those religious personalities who claim to be in the disciplic succession of any sect, are really in the "family succession".

Truly speaking every Rasik Saint is the successor of Godhead Krishna Himself. So, a true surrender to such a Spiritual Master is the only way to experience the Divine Beauty of Krishna.
